Behind Lox and Chain

Our Process

It all starts with an idea. Zak (co founder and designer) sketches every single piece that you see on our website, raw, imperfect, bursting with energy. This is where every Lox & Chain piece takes shape. Some designs come to life instantly, while others evolve over months, even years, of refinement.

The sketches then get digitalised and final tweaks happen in design meetings with the rest of the team.

From there, the real magic happens. Each piece moves from wax to metal, where it’s hand-cast, polished, and finished to perfection.

Why we manufacture in Indonesia

Just like you go to Italy for leather or Germany for cars, when it comes to silver, you go to Bali. The island’s silversmithing tradition dates back centuries, techniques passed down through generations of artisans who live and breathe their craft.

Until recently, we (Zak and Frei) handmade every Lox and Chain piece but when we could no longer keep up with the demand we felt that handing the reigns to our extremely capable team of family like artisans in Indonesia was the best move. That way we could focus on the continuing to produce high quality designs and manage the rest of our team here in Byron Bay.

,We work with a small, family-run team of expert silversmiths in Bali and visit at least once a month, ensuring that every Lox & Chain piece meets our standard of quality, integrity, and craftsmanship. Each piece is handmade, individually finished, and given the attention it deserves.

No mass production, no shortcuts. Just skill, patience, and time-honored techniques.

Why 925 Silver?

925 sterling silver is the foundation of everything we create. It's built to last, just like the stories behind each piece.

Sustainability: We use recycled 925 sterling silver to minimise environmental impact.

Strength & Durability: High-quality silver that stands up to everyday wear. Waterproof, lifeproof.

Character: Silver that ages beautifully, telling its own story over time.

Hypoallergenic & Skin-Friendly: Free from harmful metals like nickel, making it safe for sensitive skin.

Low Maintenance: Unlike base metals, sterling silver can always be polished back to its original shine.

Why 925? The number itself represents purity - 92.5% pure silver, mixed with just enough alloy to enhance strength without compromising its aesthetic.
It’s the perfect balance of craftsmanship and longevity, ensuring your pieces stay with you for a lifetime.

Small Batches. Handcrafted. Made to Last.

We don’t do fast fashion. We don’t do mass production. We do small-batch, handcrafted jewellery designed to be worn every day, for life.

Each Lox & Chain piece is individually made—meaning no two are ever exactly the same. It’s a slow, intentional process, but that’s what makes it special.

This is jewellery made for life.
